I am diagnosed with Umbilical Hernia and Gallbladder stones. What should I do?

I met Dr Ashish Vashistha at Max Hospital Saket Delhi.

Dr Ashish Vashistha, BEST HERNIA SURGEON IN DELHI asked for a detailed history and evaluated my case.

I am 38 years old woman and have 3 children in the age group of 7 to 12 years.

I weighed around 78 kgs at the time of my marriage and past 14 years constantly gaining weight and now weigh 112 kgs.

 I have the following symptoms:-

  • Upper abdominal pain
  • Back pain
  • Nausea/vomiting
  • Bloating
  • Burping
  • Intolerance of fatty food
  • Reflux/heartburn
  • Pain also moves to the shoulder sometimes

I am also noticing some bulges at the umbilicus. This bulge increases in size when I stand or cough.

Sometimes, I observe extreme pain after eating food as if food gets collected near the umbilicus.

Dr. Ashish Vashistha, BEST HERNIA SURGEON IN DELHI explained that I have developed a UMBILICAL HERNIA due to the weakening of muscles in and around the umbilicus because of increasing weight.

I was asked to get an ultrasound abdomen and an MRI Abdomen.

They found multiple Gallbladder stones with Umbilical Hernia defect of 2 cm.

Dr Ashish Vashistha, the BEST HERNIA SURGEON IN DELHI, SENIOR DIRECTOR AND HOD DEPARTMENT OF SURGERY AND ROBOTICS DECIDED TO PERFORM ROBOTIC / LAPAROSCOPIC CHOLECYSTECTOMY WITH MESH REPAIR IF THERE WAS NO INFECTION.

I had a few queries before surgery:-

1.    HOW SERIOUS IS IT TO HAVE GALLBLADDER STONES?

Gallstones (cholelithiasis) won’t necessarily cause many problems for us. A lot of people have no symptoms and never know it. But gallstones can become dangerous if they start to travel through your biliary tract and get stuck somewhere. They can clog up your biliary tract, causing pain and serious complications like pancreatitis.

         2.    WHAT IS GALLBLADDER PAIN LIKE?

The pain is severe and it is seen after eating something, especially fatty meals and the pain radiates to the shoulder.

        3.    WHAT ARE THE POSSIBLE COMPLICATIONS OF GALLBLADDER STONES –

  • Cholecystitis
  • Cholangitis
  • Pancreatitis
  • Septicemia
  • Jaundice

         4.    CAN I WAIT AND WATCH AFTER BEING DIAGNOSED WITH GALLBLADDER STONES?

You can identify the right time for surgery but don’t wait for long. You may develop complications.

          5.    CAN GALLDLADDER STONES SURGERY AND HERNIA SURGERY BE DONE TOGETHER?

YES! Both surgeries can be done together provided there is no infection in the abdomen.

Hernia requires laparoscopic / Robotic MESH repair surgery and it is advisable to not put mesh if any infection present.

FINALLY, Dr Ashish Vashistha, BEST HERNIA SURGEON IN DELHI  HAS DONE LAPAROSCOPIC CHOLECYSTECTOMY WITH HERNIA DEFECT TREATED AND MESH ALSO INSTALLED.

I AM BACK HOME HAPPY.
