DO YOU KNOW THIS ??
We can regain weight after bariatric surgery if we are not committed to diet and exercise.
Let’s understand why we gain weight after gastric sleeve surgery.
Dr Ashish Vashistha, BEST BARIATRIC SURGEON IN DELHI shares the Facts:–
Facts:-
1st Fact – About 60-70% of people regain weight after weight loss surgery due to a lack of commitment to long-term healthy habits.
2nd fact –
For one year post-surgery, our commitment is high and we follow diet and exercise as advised by our bariatric Nutritionist :
We are careful at insocial parties, careful in grocery shopping, and cooking, and very careful about alcohol consumption and daily exercise. We are also cautious about meeting our bariatric surgery and consular every 3-5 weeks.
But as time passes by, we tend to lose sight of these healthy habits.
It’s that we become lazy in following up with healthy diet and caloriecount, slowly instead of earlyless ,we start eating more and weight begin to climb again .
After bariatric surgery, Our metabolic rate decreases. We need fewer calories to sustain ourselves and if we start eating the same number of calories as before, our weight starts increasing steadily. Mostly all post-bariatric surgery patients gain weight due to :-
- Eating when the tummy is full. This is psychological eating
- Eating something throughout the day.
- Eating calorie-dense food
- Eating late night
- More processed food items.
- Generally feel like eating surgery items late at night.
Sometimes when we become pregnant after surgery, weight -gain is a lot, and difficult to lose weight then.
What are the ways to avoid weight gain away after gastric sleeve surgery?
- Lifestyle changes – follow a healthy diet, calorie count is a must after bariatric surgery.
- Bariatric surgery alone is not a permanent solution to obesity it’s a tool for losing weight. We need to follow the nutrition plan given by bariatric nutritionists.
- The best diet is BALANCED DIET We can consider MEDITERR ANEAN DIET as well.
2) Exercise is a must
A combination of cardio exercises like -aerobics, swimming, cycling, cross-training, etc. Muscle( strength ) training is a must to keep muscles intact.
Morning yoga/jogging is also very helpful.
The goal is to include 400-500 minutes of exercise pre-weak.
3) EMOTIONAL WELL-BEING IS VERY IMPORTANT.
A lot of time it is seen we are lazy and have no drive to come out of bed for exercise or have a habit of eating larger plates of rice /rotis or cakes and ice cream.
When we see a plate where salad is more and bread /pasta is less, we get emotionally low and not happy.
Again and again, we need to meet support groups, see all motivational videos, meet friends and family who are our big support. Remember obesity is a chronic problem and our body tends to regain weight again and again as our mind has a reset button that wants to see the original weight.
4 ) Keep in touch with the Bariatric support group team to discuss healthy food recipes, about new hobbies to develop to keep yourself motivated.
Your bariatric surgeon may also use antiobesity medications to help keep weight away.
5) SOCIAL GROUP MEETINGS ARE IMPORTANT
When we meet people of our type, listen to their difficult issues and, it helps us to de-stress ourselves.
Talk with friends about your goals and they with help you in weak moments.
